Tristan Millington - Drake comments on The Battle of the River Plate anniversary.
It was an enormous privilege to be asked to introduce Stephen at his lecture on the Battle of the River Plate for the Society on 7th December, 2009.
I have heard the story many times since I was a small boy but never before have I gained such a wide perspective on it. I found Stephen\'s attention to the \'before\' and \'after\' mesmerizing. His account of his father\'s involvement with South America prior to the war was fascinating and set the stage impressively for his description of the Battle itself and the scuttling of the Graf Spee.
I want to thank Stephen again for bringing the story to life with such zeal, in honour of the 70th anniversary of this most famous naval action.
